Romio was born from a simple idea β that meeting someone new shouldn't feel like a job interview, and finding a friend shouldn't take a hundred swipes.
It started in a small apartment in Bengaluru, late 2024. friends β a designer, an engineer, and a poet β were tired of dating apps that felt cold, transactional, and full of bots. They wanted something that felt human again. Something that felt like Saturday-night chats with a stranger who might just become a friend.
So they built Romio. The name comes from the Italian whisper of "Romeo" β the original hopeless romantic. We removed the swiping. We added video calls. We translated the whole thing into Tamil and Malayalam first, because home matters. And we made sure every single profile was verified, because you deserve to know who you're talking to.
To make every conversation matter. We're not building another dating app β we're building a place where chemistry happens, friendships form, and quiet evenings turn into something more.
From a beta with 50 friends to a community spanning four countries, here's where we are today.
We're a tiny team β designers, engineers, community leads β all working remotely across India. We answer support emails ourselves. We read every review. We stay close to the people we serve.
If you've got something to say, say it. We'll be there.
Be part of the next conversation. Download Romio and see why half a million people have already made it their home.
